New ferry company in South Crete by Sfakian businessmen - 7 June, 2018
A new shipping company "opens sails" on Thursday, June 07, changing the data on the naval events of the prefecture of Chania and generally of southern Crete.
The "Marine Transport Company of South Crete" or NEN Crete was established in 2018 by Cretan entrepreneurs, from Sfakia, with the mission to provide services for maritime transport of people and goods initially in the South of the Prefecture of Chania.
The purpose of the company is to provide transportation to the ports of Sfakia and Selino and, in general, to sea transports with the highest Greek and international standards and in accordance with the rules of navigation.
The first ship of the company to be launched is APOLLON K., a ship that meets all national and international navigation standards and has all the necessary approvals and certificates from the competent departments of the Ministry of Maritime and Insider Affairs.
It is manned by an experienced crew of 6 people, including two steers men with many years of experience in passenger shipping. APOLLON K. has a length of 33 meters, has been fully refurbished in 2018, has two powerful diesel engines with a total horsepower of 742 hp, travels at a speed of 14 knots / hour and can safely transport 260 passengers.
Its daily services will bring passengers from and to the harbors of Chora Sfakion, Loutro, Sougia, as well as the very important port for the tourism of our island, that of Agia Roumeli.
The aim of NEN Crete is to become the best shipping company in South Crete, effectively breaking the monopoly that has existed for many years, respecting the needs of the local community. The plans of the company are to extend its transport to other areas of our island.
From today, Thursday 07 June 2018, APOLLON K. begins its ferry service with the following departure times:
Passengers will be able to obtain their tickets initially from the entrance of the ship and in the following days from the approved points of sale at the company's kiosks at the port of Chora Sfakion, Loutro, Agia Roumeli, as well as from the cooperating agencies in Sougia and Paleochora.
