Approval of WIFI4EU in Sfakia - 17 May, 2019
Funding of € 15,000 has been secured by the Municipality of Sfakia in the framework of the European program WiFi4EU, as a result of the second phase of submitting requests for credit from this program, which was approved following the publication of the final results (Tuesday 14 May 2019).
Through the National Center for Research and Technological Development (EKETA), where a program contract was signed and using both its high speed network infrastructure and its significant experience in implementing European programs, the Municipality of Sfakia secured the aforementioned funding.
The program includes free wireless access to the Internet in major centres of public life and is to be implemented in the near future.
It is noted that the competition between the municipalities of the European Union during the first phase of the requests was very high, as about 12,500 applications were submitted for just 3,400 coupons (request satisfaction rate: 27%).
