Tourist died in Sfakia after falling from a cliff - 16 May, 2019

The crash happened just before 10.00 am this morning when a woman, a French woman of about 65, a member of a group of hikers who traveled on the route of Agia Roumeli-Agios Pavlos in Sfakia, under conditions that have not been clarified, lost her balance and fell from a cliff into a depth of many meters. The accident occurred in the area of Agios Pavlos.

The other members of the group called on the authorities to inform them that the woman was unconscious and did not respond to the group's efforts to communicate with her.

The woman, falling from the cliff, reached a distance of about 50 meters above the sea.

Immediately, the Anapoli Fire Brigade was called and also the local representative of Agia Roumeli, Yannis Tzatzimakis, to rush to the place with a doctor to approach the woman and provide immediate medical help, but unfortunately her injury during the fall was fatal.

From Sfakia in the meantime, a boat was launched with firefighters of the Anopoli fire brigade. When they arrived, they carried the deceased woman and transferred her to the health centre in Chora Sfakion.

under conditions that have not been clarified

The weather was benign yesterday (16th), pleasantly cool for hiking, certainly at 10am. Little wind.

Of course, there is no accounting for exact circumstances of accidents. There is noticable effects of the storms, with ground more unstable in some places. Small landslides and rock falls here and there. This requires even more care than usual.
