More old photos - this time from Agia Roumeli
In the late 70’s and early 80’s we stayed many times in Agia Roumeli – always spending time in the Restaurant Samaria, our hangout when visiting Aghia Roumeli. At that time, the lower village by the sea consisted of a handful of tavernas with a few simple rooms for rent and a kiosk that sold boat tickets and had the village telephone.
The first photo shows the village seen from the ruins of the Turkish fort above it, the second shows the Restaurant Samaria, and the third, one of the smaller boats taking tourists along the coast. The last photo features the late, famous, larger-than-life Papa Georgios of Komitades officiating at a wedding we attended in Agia Roumeli in 1978. Among many other duties, he was also the village priest for Agios Ioannis, walking miles through the then roadless terrain to attend to his flock.

Thanks again - it's wonderful to see more of your old photos and remember simpler, quieter times there. Keep them coming please!
If you decided to publish your Sfakia photo collection as a book, I would certainly buy a copy!
