All tourist accommodations in Greece closed until 30 April - 15 March, 2020

Prohibitions continue in our country due to the coronavirus pandemic, as tourist shops and businesses are already closed, and now tourist accommodations are being added.

According to a Joint Ministerial Decision entitled: "Imposition of the measure of temporary closure of seasonal tourist accommodation from 15.3.2020 to 30.4.2020", published in Government Gazette, it is decided that "Temporary prohibition of operation throughout Greece for preventive public health reasons, for the period from 15.3.2020 to 30.4.2020, of the main and non-main seasonal tourist accommodations. In respect of those already in operation at the time of publication of these tourist accommodations referred to in the preceding subparagraph, the provisional ban shall enter into force on 23.3.2020 and shall last until 30.4.2020."

Let's hope that the government will compensate hotels, tavernas, cafes etc for loss of earnings. We also have to hope that our friends in Sfakia and elsewhere stay well, and that eventually we can all get back to Sfakia.

I'm sure we'll all get back to Sfakia. I'm also sure that it's going to get worse before it gets better.
The Greek people have grown used to financial suffering and hardship but they certainly don't need another dose of suffering.
But as the Gloria Gaynor song says "I will survive". Just change the words to "we, the Greek people, will survive".

The situation is so weird. Now, after a few weeks and the first numbers in hand, there are more and more questions coming up. At least for me.

So its good to get a different look than the mainstream at COVID-19.

Thanks for The YouTube link. Many interesting aspects. We have sent it further to our friends and family.
We do not know what the people in Chora Sfakia think. But our love and thoughts are with them.

We got a mail a couple of days ago from the hotel in georgioupoli that the 2 nights in April was canceled. We got that the same day they closed all hotels in Greece.
And the hotel Livicon in Chora Sfakion we had booked in April we got a mail from today that it was canceled because all the hotels in Greece are closed at the moment by the government until 30th of April.

The cafe and restaurants closed a as well and the places who stayed opened will have to pay a fee of 5.000€. Incredibly.

Today they stopped people to travelling to the Greek islands, so covid-19 is not spreading there to the people. Because there are not prepared to look after all the sick people.

Let's hope for the best.

As soon as there is relevant news about Crete regarding Corona I will post it here on the forum.

Greece and Crete will not be open in May, although this is not official yet. Not only the situation in Greece, but also in the home countries of the tourists, determines when Greece will open. Until then there is only hope.

Some hotel owners, like the ones in Sfakia, hope to be able to open in July. Others hope for August or September, and some expect not to open at all this season.

To all the people involved in the touristic sector (accommodation/restaurants etc) in Crete and all of Greece, hang in there as we'll be back to see you as soon as we are authorised. We are thinking of you during this difficult period. Above all, take good care of your health.
