Bit of a shame, to have a panorama photo with such small dimensions, when viewed on my laptop screen.

One way around this is to edit the photo for the dimensions as such (as a first step). For example, if I take an approx 6mb photo, its dimensions will be approx 5000 x 3800. When I want to post a photo on this forum my first step is to set the horizontal dimension to 1200-1400 pixels, and let the vertical dimension scale automatically.

Once you've done this, check the file size. Scaling down the photo is usually enough to reduce the file size to what's acceptable for this forum. However, if it is still too large then reduce the jpg 'quality' to 90% or so when saving after edit. This reduction in resolution quality is still good enough for viewing on a computer screen.

I scaled UP your photo to 1200 pixel width. I can't recover image quality from your original 400 px width, but you'll get the idea.

That looks better mike. I haven't had a problem before but I have a nikon d800 which is full frame so has a massive file size when making a pan. This is relatively small at 337mb . I get file sizes and dpi resolutions but am a little slower when trying to upload pics. I end up googling it first. I really appreciate the advice . Thanks and I'll try again as the detail is great.

I had noticed your earlier post about file sizes, but didn't know what the problem was, so didn't answer. The problem with photo pans, that I'm familiar with.

I stitch together photos, and often end up with massive files, 5000-6000 pixels wide or more. I've found that simply scaling down the photo to 1200 pixels width (for posting on this forum) almost in itself solves the file size problem, and retains photo quality.

Mike, This file was 285mb. I reduced it to 1400 pixels wide and reduced the quality so it is now 713kb.

Thanks Erno.

Mike the file sizes of the Aradena pan is 285.8mb flattened and is 14813 x6743 pixels, and the Chania Harbour above somewhere is 917mb flattened and 45972 x 6976.
Each picture comes out of the camera at 17mb and are 623.15mm x 415.88mm as a fine quality JPG and I then save everything as a tiff once worked on.

Those of us who did not yet see Patrick's other panarama work on Sfakia and Crete: please have a look here:

and

http://www.sfakia-crete.com/sfakia-cret ... rete2.html

His panoramas there are HUGE! Something which unfortunately is not possible on a forum site.
