Today we did the short walk to Giorgitsi, the abandoned part of the village above Mesohori.
We took the footpath that starts along the side of the house opposite the Horizon hotel (the old Notos) and winds up to the church of Agia Paraskevi. The view from there to the upper parts of the village (Mesohori and Tholos) is lovely at this time of year, with lots of green ground cover, and today we could even make out the Paximadia islands off Matala.
Giorgitsi has 3 intact churches and several ruined ones, one of which has only the remains of a side wall decorated with frescos which fade year by year.
We didn’t see any flowers we hadn’t spotted already, but there was a nice seed-head of a Biscutella didyima, with it’s characteristic double discs.
On the way back down, the sea looked such a deep blue today. It was windy when we got back to the plateia, although Giorgitsi was quite sheltered.
