The Directorate of Forests of Chania of the Decentralized Administration of Crete, after the decision of the Coordinator Mrs. M. Kozyraki, announces the opening of the National Park of the White Mountains-Samaria on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 7:30 a.m. from the southern entrance (Agia Roumeli) and in a length of two kilometers (until Christos) of the route of the main path.
The Forest Service has taken all the necessary actions, for the time being with its own means, in order to make possible and safe the visit of the southern part of the Forest and to ensure the protection of the forest ecosystem. The start of operation of the National Park along the entire route, from Xyloskalo to Agia Roumeli, will take place in the coming weeks, when the maintenance of the main path and the removal of the scattered falls will be completed.
If the weather conditions change to such an extent that problems are created in the smooth passage of visitors, the Directorate of Forests of Chania will propose the regulation of the passage or the prohibition of the entry of visitors to the National Park. [...]
