Thank you very much indeed for these fascinating photographs! Some very familar family names – and we were especially pleased to see a picture of our dear friend Angeliki Tsardi, who we only knew as a delightful elderly woman.
In case people don't notice the credits, the pictures come from this book, published in Crete:
https://www.mystis.gr/en/books/view/krh ... o-ciprianiI had not heard of Lidio Cipriani. Italian Wikipedia says that he was an anthropologist who was sent to Crete in 1942, as part of the Siena division of the Italian army, to carry out anthropological research. In June 1945 he was arrested in Florence for having signed the "Manifesto della Razza”, the Italian fascists’ racist manifesto, and for supporting the racist and anti-Jewish policies of the Italian fascist government. He was imprisoned in Milan, but released after 7 months.
