We went to Elafonisi yesterday for our annual January visit to see the androcymbium rechingeri flowers, having watched the weather forecast and chosen the day carefully. The weather was ideal. However we were completely thwarted, as there was far too much water to cross to the island where the flowers are – it was much, much deeper than we had ever seen before. We were expecting to have to paddle a bit, and one of us tried, but quickly had to give up. We settled for having a picnic in the sun by the lagoon instead of on the island. So I have two questions:
i) is anyone able to describe where these flowers are located at Falasarna (we know there are some there too), and how to find them?
ii) is there any way of finding out in advance when the island at Elafonisi is inaccessible? It’s a long drive!
Any advice would be much appreciated.
