Signs of a huge gas field south of Crete - 31 October, 2019

hydrocarbon-fields2.jpg

This is the so called Talos Field, which according to the data presented by the Director General of the Hellenic Petroleum Hydrocarbons Yiannis Grigorios in a closed discussion of the Evangelos Venizelos' think tank, has a structure similar to that of the 2015 Zohr deposit discovered near Cyprus and Israel.

Analysis of existing seismic data shows a 280 billion cubic meter deposit, which, if confirmed, will be able to meet the needs of Greece's domestic market for 70 years as Greece consumes 4 billion cubic meters gas per year.

According to Ta Nea newspaper, this target was recorded in the 2012-2013 seismic surveys by the Norwegian company PGS that had "scanned" the Ionian and southern Crete marine areas with the Talos Field, according to the same information, being located in southern Crete.

It is noted that drilling needs to be be performed to verify the estimate.

Both, depending on what you value most: money or nature and climate.

Hellenic Petroleum about the natural gas field in Crete - 1 November, 2019

hellenic-petroleum.jpg

Hellenic Petroleum has issued a clarifying statement on natural gas deposits in the marine area of Crete .

The report states in detail: "Although there are indications or estimates for gas and oil in many parts of the world, the conclusion of whether or not there are commercially viable reserves requires a series of serious work and analysis that requires considerable time.

In Greece today, with the data we have, HELLENIC PETROLEUM are not yet able to refer to the existence, size of the deposits and whether they are economically viable. Note that in many of the areas for which there are publications, investigations have not even begun.

It is common, at various conferences and meetings, to refer to indications and estimates for the presence of hydrocarbons, to exchange views and scrutinize them, but these must be interpreted in the correct way and cannot form the basis for any announcement about the existence of deposits.

As HELLENIC PETROLEUM, we consider it very important to communicate to the relevant authorities of the country, investors and citizens based only on real data, in order to avoid premature assessments and hasty conclusions."
