After nearly a month's journey, launched on 31 May from Nagasaki, Japan, at 6:30 am, the cargo ship Calypso under the Antigua flag sailed to the port of Souda carrying another ship.

This is the new speedboat that ANEDYKK has acquired with the name "Sfakia Pioneer" (champion of Sfakia), which apart from a passenger ship is also a roll-on/ roll-off ferry!

The unloading operation of the vessel from the cargo ship into the port of Souda lasted many hours as there were strict security measures in order not to cause any damage.

When the Sfakia Pioneer was released from the truck crane, after 2pm, it was towed up to a point at a pier in the commercial section of the harbor.

The new craft is a High Speed Passenger Ferry and was built in Japan in 1998.

It has a capacity of 258 gt, a length of 46 meters, a width of 8 meters and a draft of 1.5 meters.

It has the capacity to carry 200 passengers and 10-15 passenger cars while with both engines of 4,070 hp total power it can develop a speed of 23 knots with a maximum of 26 knots.

Ship refurbishments in compliance with European safety rules need to be done and it is reported that the passenger capacity after these will increase to around 400 people and is expected to be ready for sailing in the summer of 2020.

For the time being, it is not possible to estimate its final routes, although the first choice of ANENDYK is the execution of travels (not scheduled) to and from Santorini, possibly from Rethymno.

Note that the "Sfakia Pioneer" is the third new vessel with which the ANENDYK fleet is equipped, after the "Agia Roumeli" and the "Calypso" bought last year.
