Groceries and eating out in November

by Mormanno » 17 Nov 2018, 16:37

Hello,
I'd like to visit Chora Sfakion next week.
Is there any Chance to get a hot meal, breakfast and some groceries there? :)

Kind regards
Mormanno

Hello Mormanno,

The small supermarket in the backstreet and the butcher on the square are open every morning, and 3 restaurants usually stay open in winter: Delfini, Nikos, and Mesohori.
All the best,

Yes to both!

The restaurants that should be open are The Delfini, Nikos, and Mesohori - but they don't stay open late waiting for the few customers, so tell them ahead of time if you intend to eat there, and try to order by 6:30-7pm. They are open at lunch time as well, of course.

The back supermarket is usually open, with shorter hours (maybe closing at 2-3pm), but it is probably not open on Sundays in November, and the bakeries should be open but also probably not on Sundays. The butcher shop in the plateia also sells cheese and frozen food.

The bar in the plateia normally has bar snacks.

Have a wonderful visit!

Thanks Jean for dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

From our own experience: check one day ahead if a service you need is available the next day. There are many festivities in the off-season. A marriage or other party can mean a shop or restaurant suddenly will not be open.

It happened to us in December, and we will never forget that night with stale bread and just a slice of cheese for dinner, in an empty village flooded with rain, and without electricity. But we had 1 candle, and the radio was playing, on batteries: a live concert by Michalis Tzouganakis, and we knew we were far from home, and enjoying ourselves completely!
All the best,

Hello,
Lovely to hear that you Mormanno are planning a trip to chora Sfakion now in the late season. We are hoping ourselves to go back for a week in December, which we always have hoped to do. But this is the first year Norwegian fly up until last of December from Copenhagen to Chania.
Thanks Erno for the lovely, charming story of your evening with bread and cheese and your lit candle. Hopefully enjoyed with a nice bottle of retzina.

Best regards
