Reportage from Sfakia Tuesday 4 of June

by Marie and Andrew » 04 Jun 2019, 14:23

Hello,
Sorry could not manage to send any photos of the last report we sent on Sunday, our son could not help us over the phone how to make image smaller. We will sort out when we come home.

On Sunday we arrived to Aradena just in time to the first bungy jump. The jump was successful apart from the fact that they could not winch him up, so the poor young man was hanging in his harness for about 20 minutes, half way between the bridge and the bottom of the gorge until they got him up. After that every jump went smoothly.

The last two days have been quite windy but this morning was calm and still but now the wind has returned. It is hot and nice in the sun though.

Yesterday we went to Frangocastello for a nice swim and we realized when we were driving past, that the restaurant The Drousilites opposite the castle had changed name to Nikita's, and when we were there today again we spoke to the new owners, who are Koundourakis family who also have the big restaurant in Argyroupoli on the north half not long from Kournas Lake and Episkopi. And that restaurant we can recommend so we wish them luck in there new venture.
When we came back yesterday afternoon we took refreshments at Georgias Kantina, at the table next to us Georgia made around 40 Sfakia pies in no time at all, which she promptly put in boxes and then in to the fridge. Daskalogiannis arrived as we sat there and it was many tuirists and walkers. We could see most of them had trekked The Samaria Gorge. As they went up the steps we thought to ourselves they know nothing about the dramatic scenes which had taken place during this last winter.

This morning we saw the boat Neptune arrived to the old harbour, Stavros from Faros Cafe assisted with the ropes. The Nen Kritis ferryboat is also running now, so there is plenty of boat activity in both harbours now.

Bye for now and best regards
Marie and Andrew

Thanks for your very informative report - it eases the pain of not being there in person!

We feel the same too, we haven't been to Sfakia for two years and are missing it.

Hi Marie and Andrew,

Thanks for your report. This year we decided to spend our vacation in the Matala area for a change, so we miss a bit Frangokastelo and the very nice breakfast and chat we used to have at Georgia's.

May I suggest you to use some online application to resize the pictures you want to upload here? This one is quite self-explanatory if you want to have a try: https://bulkresizephotos.com/

Make a copy of the pictures you want to upload in a separate folder and then follow the instructions on the website. Choose resize by file size and set the size at the max size allowed here (I believe it is 1Mb, not sure). The programme will ask you to save a zip file on your computer with all the pictures you have selected and resized. Choose a destination for the zip file and then unzip it. I hope this works for you.

Hello Alf and Monica,
Thanks for tips and advice, it was nice of you to show concern. We only have an IPad to work with here, so we will try your advise at our computer when we are going back home to Sweden tomorrow.
Have a nice holiday in Matala.

Best regards
Marie and Andrew

Does this mean that the thieves that ran the Drossulites have now left the business and we can consider going there without fear of being cheated?

Hello,
Yes Davidsiorns, that is exactly what it means. It was a total different atmosphere there now, and the seating upstairs looked very nice and inviting with the very beautiful view towards the castle and the sea.

Best regards

Thanks for that, we have been going to FRANGO now for 22 years and were warned early on about their behaviour and it is nice that they have hopefully got their just deserts and gone bust.
Unfortunately the people who have take over will continue to be tarred with their reputation and I suggest you tell them to put a big sign up saying "UNnDER NEW MANAGEMENT" and an even bigger sign with their prices on it!

Hi again Davidsiorns,
We went back home to Sweden last week. But we can inform you that the new owners had put up a couple of new signs with the name Nikita's and also had menus with prices.

Have a nice weekend
Marie and Andrew
