Jean,
Thanks again! (The pms are still stuck in my outbox ... maybe I need to ask Erno for help). For now, The concept of rotational tectonic activity (between the African Plate and the Aegean Sea Plate) exposing the bedding planes seems to fit best.

HI, It's been a long while since I've been on the forum ... it's been a long while since I was last in Sfakia (2013), but only now with lockdown have I the time to carefully go through the photos I've taken over the years of visiting. One I came across today was of the shoreline at Agios Pavlos. The...

Sadly, another thing that needs to be checked is the International Driving Permit, especially if you are transiting through other countries. I found it confusing, but when I looked on the UK Gov site a couple of weeks ago it appeared that you need to check which IDP you need ... driving through Fran...

Firstly, can I say 'Hello, Again'! I've been away from the forum for some time and my last trip to Crete was 2013. I've not seen mention of the Villa Ariadne elsewhere, but I can thoroughly recommend it. Although it focuses on the background to the development of Knossos from the days of Sir Arthur ...

Hi Erno,
Thanks for the information. Now I can plan whether it would be sensible (the last time I went away for a 'special birthday', it was to the Camargue ... it was freezing!)
Best wishes,
Nick

After an absence of too many years, I am hoping to get to Sfakia again in 2018. The thing is, I have a certain birthday coming up, but it is in December. Now, I've been to Crete in the winter months (Zakros, Kokkinos Pirgos, and Paleochora) ... they're no good ... it needs to be Sfakia. Erno ...help!

My two cents ... although I haven't been to Crete for 3 years, now  Mike's recounting the couple on Gingilos ... remember the two Poles (I think) who died in Tripiti when they were with a group walking the Samaria Gorge? On the hillside between Loutro and Anopoli, a walk I used to do just to wa...
