Re: Anopolis/Aradena/Marmara then Loutro

# 11 Kalimera Noah, I would take the normal path (the bypass). As has already been written, there is a bit of rubble and the wooden railing is in bad condition. Both routes then meet again. The bigger problem is the heat in August. It feels like 35-40C in the gorge. Only a few days ago, 2 tourists h...

Re: Damaged NEN ferry in Agia Roumeli

"Has it affected ferry schedules around Sfakia?"

No, there is no negative impact. At the pier (which is outside, west of the village), only NEL and a few small fishing boats have docked.

The ferries from ANENDYK dock directly at the village/pier.

Re: "Go there, a friend had whispered as if imparting a guilty secret."

Kalispera Noah, you always see people in Crete swimming a great distance.

A good option would be to walk a bit and take a taxi boat for a bit.

Re: Gavdos advice sought

Kalispera Noah, I don't know of any camping equipment (tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag) that you can borrow anywhere in Crete or Gavdos. What is important when you sleep on the beach in Gavdos is a mosquito net to protect you from mosquitoes. Something like that: https://www.globetrotter.de/care-pl...

The path (Monopathi) from Ágios Ioánnis to Sellouda is also marked.

Re: From Agios Ionanis to Agia Roumeli via Seloudha

I agree with Marco: the path is well marked (yellow/black E4 signs and poles). The coastal section via Agios Pavlos Beach to Agia Roumeli is part of the European Long Distance Trail (E4). You can't get lost there. A hiking guide is not necessary. I found the section across the sand from Agios Pavlos...

Re: Damaged NEN ferry in Agia Roumeli

Kalimera Seth, thank you for your updated information. In May 2019, there were problems with NEN Kritis' ship Talos. https://www.kriti24.gr/chania-apagoreytike-o-apoploys-ploioy-poy-paroysiase-vlavi/ I have always enjoyed travelling with small boats from NEN Kritis. NEN Kritis has been cheaper than ...

Re: Accommodation in Livaniana

Kalimera Livanianá and Ágios Ioánnis are my favorite villages in Sfakia. In the meantime there is accommodation (unfortunately not very cheap) in Livanianá. The Manousoudakis family, the owners of the Akrogiali tavern of Lykos beach, runs the "Villas Livaniana" (2 apartments) in Livanianá....

Re: Poetry by George Psycoundakis

Kalimera Dorthe, I only know the book "The Cretan Runner" by George Psycoundakis. George Psychoundakis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Psychoundakis In Ási Goniá, the birthplace of George Psycoundakis, there is the Cretan Runner Museum. They can certainly help you further. Cretan Run...
