Two new ships for ANENDYK

George Dalidakis just send us this article (in Greek) from Parakritika.gr. We’ve made an attempt to translate it. There are 5 photos of the new ship in the link. http://www.parakritika.gr/foto-astrapiaies-oi-kiniseis-tis-anendyk-ayta-einai-ta-ploia-poy-antikathistoyn-quot-pligomeno-quot-neptune/ aeg...

Re: Neptune's replacement.

The revised timetable Erno just posted shows a foot-passenger ferry running Roumeli-Loutro-Sfakia at 8:30am, and Sfakia-Loutro-Roumeli at 18:30, so it looks like the Krista will be filling this gap left by the Neptune's demise.

Re: Neptune's replacement.

Unless I'm wrong, the Krista is Kostas and Bettina Kouri's Gavdos cruiser. Perhaps it will temporarily do the Neptune run until ANENDYK gets a replacement ship ready.

Thanks, Wolfgang. That looks like very serious damage.

Sfakia report, May 6th, heroic boat rescue

We just witnessed the Neptune and its passengers from Loutro being rescued from a very dangerous situation after its engine broke just outside the new harbour. The waves were pushing the boat onto the concrete breakwater; the passengers were huddled at the back of the boat, many with life-vests on. ...

Sfakia report, May 5-6th

The sea was rough again on Saturday, running from the SW, causing smaller boats to nearly disappear in the wave troughs and making swimming at Vrisi beach tricky. The ferries had to take on passengers in the new harbour once again. There was a steady breeze and clear skies all day, and the temperatu...

A few photos of waves hitting today - of course, all the best hits happened when my camera wasn't out!

Sfakia report, May 2nd, upper Aradena gorge

It was a hot morning with a SE breeze, and with some thin cloud cover. Wiltrud and I decided to walk up the Aradena gorge going north from the kaldirimi, and then head back overland to Aradena, a route we haven’t tried before. (We had gone down this upper section of the Aradena gorge from the Krousi...

Sfakia report, May 3-4

Yesterday there was a SE wind again (the siroccos), meaning that the sea was rough all along the coast to Roumeli. We were told that the Neptune wasn’t in Loutro in the afternoon, and it stayed overnight in Sfakia, leaving at 7am this morning for Roumeli. (This year the Daskalogiannis is also stayin...
