Re: Aradena to Agia Roumeli

The path is well marked, so you shouldn't be concerned about orientation. But it will be a very hot walk in August, since there is little shade on the way to Selouda, and it can be especially hot along the raised beach on the coast, so bring lots of water and do stop to swim so you can cool down.

Re: Final Sfakia report for 2019, Nov 8th

Thank you all very much for your support and good wishes.

It was strange waking up this morning and not hearing the sea or familiar Sfakia voices, and not even having a current picture from one of the webcams to look at.

Final Sfakia report for 2019, Nov 8th

Yesterday was very warm and humid again, with heavy clouds hanging over the mountains but quite a lot of sun at the coast. We drove out to the headland over Agia Marina and watched men shaking the olives off the trees with their power-rakes. olive harvest.jpg In the evening, we had a lively birthday...

Has it died or is it just having a rest whilst waiting to be cleaned?

We were told it seems to be dead. I have tried my best to encourage them to replace it soon.

Sfakia report, Nov 6th – olive oil mill, weather

It’s been another day of amazing weather – 26C, sunny, less humid, calmer seas. Businesses that have closed continue with final preparations before winter – rolling up awnings, carting away rubbish and broken items, carrying out thorough cleaning and some repairs. But now everyone has the time to ta...

Sfakia report, Nov 5th – quiet, warm; building projects

It was very warm and humid today – the temperature got up to 27C. Even up in Anopoli, where there were a lot of clouds, it reached 20C. There was a swell on the sea, but the water is still quite warm. It was also extremely peaceful here today. The Lefka Ori closed after breakfast and proceeded to cl...

Sfakia report, Nov 4 – weather, Frangokastello

After light rain this morning, it got very warm (25C) and humid, and was mainly cloudy with some stretches of sunshine. We drove to Frangokastello for a tourist-free swim there. There were signs of substantial rain overnight. Beyond Komitades, some mud and stones had washed onto the road surface. Wo...

Sfakia report, Nov 3rd – old footpaths to Agios Ioannis

It was a beautiful day with clear skies and warm sunshine. Oct 3rd is the day they celebrate Agios Georgos o Methistis (‘St. George who gets people drunk’), and in Kalikratis after a church service there is always a big party which involves sampling the year’s new wine as well as general feasting, s...
