Re: Heraklion airport getting ready for the new season

We have used the "new" = refurbished airport already and I really wonder where they want to place the passengers. There is now less space (with regards to seats) than before and the whole area with the gates has become very confusing: The exits to the busses are now in the centre and not t...

Re: Serious damage in Crete due to heavy rain

In more detail: The main road to Sfakia and further to Anopolis and Agios Ioannis is mainly OK. The road towards Frangokastello is also mainly OK. The road up from Patsianos to Kallikratis has some damages but is passable. The same is true for the Imbros/Askifou to Kallikratis road (minor damages). ...

Re: Spring Flowers

Jim, I think you can expect lots of flowers when you are there. Now, in early March, there were still very few flowers, due to the cold winter. They should be ou by then in huge quantities, especially in "intermediate" heights. Be aware: The bus connections at this time of the year are pro...

Re: Serious damage in Crete due to heavy rain

I can report that Sfakia was more or less lucky as few roads have been destroyed. Other areas further to the east (Plakias) and especially the west (Falassarna, Elafonissi and inland) have a lot bigger damaged to cope with. The footpaths - f. i. on the South coast from Agia Roumeli to Marmara - are ...

Re: Inauguration of the restored Sacred Church of the Twelve Apostles in Sfakia

Thank you, Erno, for posting the photographs and article. Very good news, indeed! I am very happy that the church was saved from breaking down completely.
I would have really liked to attend the inauguration ceremony...

Re: Sfakia report, May 6th, heroic boat rescue

Well, this looks "slightly rotten". Not only the damages but the whole construction. I am quite happy that our last journey with the Neptune on 30th. April with high waves did not end like that. I hope that the Anendyk will replace the boat now by a larger one.

Re: Little gorge name

Hi Alf,
I assume that it is called "Anopolis gorge". I have never heard anything else.
All the best for the new year 2018!

Re: R.I.P.

Hi Andreas,
yes, have a look if the soles starts coming off on the side. You will notice this quite soon - it is obvious.... ;-)
No, at the moment, I do not plan another holidays this year, having just returned from 6 weeks on the HRP in the Pyrenees...
