George Pyschoundakis house in Asi Gonia is now the Cretan Runner museum - though sadly it was closed the day we passed through this summer. There is a Facebook page which gives more information.

Heading out to the far east of Crete at the beginning of April to make a start on the first part of the Cretan Way (E4) . I can't take the full 4 weeks off work so making do with 10 days of walking and then maybe some more later in the year.

just been watching some Facebook posts from Platanias which show the main street flooded under what looks like around 100mm of water and very heavy rain falling.

Did this a couple of years ago in October but the other way around. Walked down the Samaria gorge and stopped overnight in Agia Roumeli then walk the coastal path to Loutro the following day and caught the ferry to Sfakia. Quick fix visit

Managed a quick fix 5 days on Crete last week. Very mixed weather conditions from rain and thunder storms to beautiful bright blue skies. Still patches of snow in the mountains and a lot of evidence of the recent rainfall. Many areas still relatively green and late Spring flowers in bloom higher up....

I might be wrong Jim (wouldn't be the first time) but I thought the early morning bus ran the other way - Anopoli to Sfakia. I was able to hitch a lift fairly quickly last time I walked the Aradena Gorge. I once hired a taxi up to Anopoli - 40 euros (won't be doing that again)
