Re: Sfakia report, Nov 6th – olive oil mill, weather

You are being spoilt Jean with the good weather and having the place almost to yourselves. Just one last thing before you leave. If you have the time, can you do a final try to get somebody to check out the harbour webcam? Has it died or is it just having a rest whilst waiting to be cleaned? The bea...

Re: Sfakia report, Nov 5th – quiet, warm; building projects

Thanks for the photos Jean and the up to date information on the development in and around Sfakia. One comforting point is that it appears the developent and renovation work going on will result in family run businesses or small parntership businesses. Thankfully, no sign of the big multi bedroom re...

Re: Greece ranks last in EU in waste management and recycling

What a sad note for Greece.
Haven't been to Govdos for over three years now but my last visit there left me in a state of shock from what I saw with the garbage being piled up and overflowing from bins in the open air in a Natura 2000 zone.

Re: Sfakia report, Nov 1st

All good things must come to an end but the good news is that Sfakia should come back to life in spring of next year. A bit like nature. After a rest, things bloom again. May Sfakia have a good rest whilst preparing itself to give joy and happiness to its population and its faithful tourists in 2020.

Webcams

Both the harbour and the beach webcam in Sfakia seem to be out of order. Not having much luck with them this year.

Re: Sfakia report, Oct 23rd – Sweetwater to Loutro

Thanks Jean for the information and photos. Sfakia to Loutro is part of the southern Crete coastline that I like the most. And Sweetwater beach is a dream. Unfortunately, due to ongoing family health problems, I am again not able to make my annual prilgrimage to this part of the world. So your photo...

Re: Sfakia report, Oct 10

Nice to see that the "honesty" system is working with the Livaniana tavern. This is good news on the practical side but the long chats with Elk (hope the spelling is right) put the cherry on the cake for this unique tavern. Hope there will be some human presence with a new owner who likes ...

Re: Sfakia Report

Enjoy your stay and hopefully we'll be spoilt with your great photos. p.s. looks like the harbour webcam lens needs a clean. For several days the image has been very "foggy". If you know the person responsible perhaps you could mention it to them. However, the beach webcam is showing clear...

Re: Greek hoteliers at odds with Booking.com over commission policy

Interesting. Unfortunately, these online booking companies have worked their way into system and are eating away at the profits of the hotel owners. In most cases, it is the hotel owner who carries the cost of their service. Here in France, I don't know how they structure their final bill to the hot...
