Re: Sfakia report, May 2nd – Imbros gorge

Love the flowers, Jean.

We'd heard that there are currently lots of boulders from the Spring storms to scramble over at the bottom of the gorge - not great for oldies like us. Is that the case?

Re: Concern for the condition of the Samaria Gorge

Thank you very much, Joan, for the useful information about the road to Omalos and the flowers that are out now. I would imagine next week will be brilliant for flowers on Omalos - unfortunately we will be back in England for a few weeks. I'm attaching a widow iris picture and a shot of the road be...

Re: Concern for the condition of the Samaria Gorge

29 March, 2019 (latest news I could find): It is reported by the Prefecture of Chania that due to the continuous landslides caused by the recent bad weather, the roads Alikianos - Prasses - Sempronas (Hilario - Semprona section), as well as the Fournes - Lakki - Omalos road will be closed to traffi...

Re: Concern for the condition of the Samaria Gorge

Yes - we'd like to know about the road conditions too. We usually go up to Omalos to photograph the flowers about this time of year, but guess it may have to be delayed.

Re: The church in Crete which can only be visited once a year

Trying again with reduced sized pictures.

The fortress is in a very bad condition - but someone has had a sense of humour (see the three sailors).

The church is in much better shape.

Re: The church in Crete which can only be visited once a year

We have lots of photos, mostly (but not all) similar to those already posted.
I tried to upload some but was immediately told the file size was too large. What is the limit?

Re: The church in Crete which can only be visited once a year

Three of us visited last week, on Dec 15th 2018, arriving at about 11:30. The church service had finished by then. We wandered freely all round the fortress first, inside and outside. It was both very interesting and very sobering. Then to the church, which was impressive on so many levels. There we...

Re: The church in Crete which can only be visited once a year

We saw this posting on Dec 16th last year and immediately put Dec 15th in our diaries for 2018. Does anyone have any more information? - actual opening hours of the fortress and the church, time of the mass (we would not want to intrude on that) etc. Any information - or way to find out more - grate...

Re: Sfakia report, April 17th, Agios Ioannis and Kormokopos cave

I'm interested to know if the unidentified purple flower is the same as we photographed near to the summit of Vryssinas - I think on April 9th.
I'll look through the big flower book soon.

Re: R.I.P.

Interesting discussion! I've just replaced my 10-year-old Meindl shoes - not boots, as my ankles won't tolerate boots any more - by the latest version, which look and feel remarkably similar to the originals. They feel like gloves - so comfortable. The old ones have been very well used in Crete and ...
