Re: Excursion outside Sfakia – walk from Myrthios to Plakias via water-powered mills

The photographs of the mill and especially of the water channel reminded me of a very similar(restored) water mill I saw in the village of Vilaflor on the Island of Tenerife. The water is fed down the mountain in a pipe where it enters the channel. The channel is cantilevered in a series of arches o...

Re: New bus timetables published valid from 31 March

No change on the Sfakia route. Still only one bus in each direction. That is unfortunate.

KTEL Timetable

Last year and possibly in previous years KTEL announced changes to the timetable on Chania-Sfakia route around the 28th March, with more departure times in each direction. It is now almost the end of the month and I am just asking if anyone knows if there will be a more frequent service to/from Sfak...

Re: Spring Flowers

Thanks to everyone who has replied. At least you will save me time from wandering about aimlessly and I can now go with some sort of plan as to where to look.

Spring Flowers

I will be in Sfakia from 3-10th April and as well as general hiking I would like to see some of the spring flowers which are out(hopefully) at this time. Does anyone know any particular areas where they are most prolific/interesting. I am not hiring a car to get around so I am limited to the wider S...

Re: Sfakia to Agia Roumeli, post Neptune

Hi Seth. That is a nuisance right enough. If the Daskaloyannis was to over night in Agia Roumelli then that would be the answer to your prayers. The captain might not be that keen, apart from the nightlife the jetty at Agia Roumelli can be a bit exposed and if the wind was to come to blow up overnig...

Re: When are you coming to Crete (again) in 2018?

Last week in May for just over a week. starting at Kalergi Hut and making for Sfakia, trying to get hill fit again after a long lay-off and knee surgery. What I do depends upon how fit I feel. After Sfakia I am heading to Evvia for my first visit. There is a mountain or two, a gorge and some archaeo...

Re: Walking to Domata Beach

Svein Like Ray, I too have done this walk several times and have lost the path in places. I did not seem to have too much trouble heading downhill to the beach with my destination in sight. On the return leg heading back to Agia Roumeli heading uphill from the beach is where I found it difficult to ...

Re: Quick fix visit

Hello Robo, I was in Crete from 20-31st May and I also had mixed weather. And no, you are neither getting old or intolerant , it is just a sign of the times now that in most countries there is a new animal frequenting the hills, usually the hill nearest to the road/carpark and the further off hills ...
