An end to reduced tax on tsikoudia (raki) and tsipouro - 12 July, 2019

The European Court of Justice obliges our country to equate the excise tax with other spirits, so it will be doubled.

The Court of Justice of the European Union, following a European Commission appeal against Greece, has condemned Greece for the reduced rate of excise duty on tsipouro and tsikoudia produced by small distilleries.

'Greek legislation providing for the application of a reduced rate of excise duty on tsipouro and tsikoudia produced by distillers and a significantly reduced rate of excise duty on tsipouro and tsikoudia produced by small distilleries is contrary to European Union laws.

In its judgment today, the Court recalled: 'With regard to the application of a rate of excise duty reduced by fifty percent from the applicable national rate, Member States are in principle required to set the same rate of excise duty for all products are subject to an excise duty on ethyl alcohol '.

The WEU also points out that 'although the Harmonization Directive contains a provision introducing a derogation for Greece, this provision clearly refers only to' aniseed-flavored spirit drinks known as ouzo. [...]

And so in Brussels big brother is looking over us and telling us what we have to do. Could this type of thing be one of the reasons that motivated BREXIT ??

Does this mean and end to the complimentary tsikoudia at the end of the meal?? Catastrophe. And people wonder why we want to leave the EU although I must confess that all politics is the same the world over . Politics derived from the Greek poli (many) tics (blood sucking insects)
