Re: Imbros gorge taxi

I've been a taxi driver myself for long years in Osnabrück/LowerSaxony/Germany. Hi Kuno, I don't know how useful it is to compare German taxi fares to Greek ones, honestly. Mileage is probably similar, but what would you expect a taxi driver should make in Crete? The same as in Germany? As comparis...

Re: Imbros gorge taxi

Unfortunately, we were told the fare at the end of the trip. You usually agree the fare in advance for longer trips. So the 10 EUR came a bit as a surprise, especially considering that we knew the driver from a previous vacation and he remembered us (he took us from Sougia to Paleochora for a more t...

Re: Imbros gorge taxi

A weird turn indeed, since the Taverna Oasis is at the LOWER entrance of Agia Irini Gorge, more or less 5 Km far from Sougia, as I said.

Re: Imbros gorge taxi

Last year my wife and I paid a local taxi driver 10 EUR to get us from Sougia to the Oasis Taverna (entrance of Agia Irini Gorge), which is more or less 5 Km drive and half the time to get to Imbros from Komitades. I personally felt robbed.

Re: Reportage from Sfakia Tuesday 4 of June

Hi Marie and Andrew, Thanks for your report. This year we decided to spend our vacation in the Matala area for a change, so we miss a bit Frangokastelo and the very nice breakfast and chat we used to have at Georgia's. May I suggest you to use some online application to resize the pictures you want ...

Re: Polish tourist disappeared between Sougia and Chora Sfakion

9th and 10th of April the sea was rough and ferries stayed docked, as Jean reported. If the man adventured into the narrow passages with the rock formations east of Tripiti, maybe just to take some pictures with his phone, I would not be surprised that he has dragged out to sea. Re: Sfakia report, April 12th, Kallikratis, Asfendou

Thank you for the report Jean, I am not into flowers but very much a voracious eater of any kind of horta. My favourite one is vlita, which unfortunately is not yet on menus in late May, early June when we usually are in Crete. So we usually order Stamnagathi, slightly bitter but all right. I don't ...

- Up in the high madares near Pachnes, where there have been avalanches, a shepherd went to see how things were at his mitato and couldn’t find it. Some researchers with measuring tools discovered that the snow is 45 metres deep in the natural basin where his mitato is located! Is this possible? A ...

Time to update the Crete packing checklist with crampons and ice axe (actually one year we came with microspikes).

Re: Will Visa be needed if 'No Deal' Brexit??

Does anyone know if UK citizens will need a visa to visit Greece if there is a 'No Deal' Brexit????????????????????????? I know that if a UK passport has less than 6 months validity at the start of a trip or if it will be older than 9 years 6 months at the end of a trip then a new passport would be...
